Molynor Begins the Energy Management System Implementation and Certification Project

This past January 28th, Molynor hit an important milestone with its launch of the Energy Management System (SGE) Implementation and Certification Project based on the ISO 50.001 standard, with the participation of Molynor leaders, Ms. Alejandra Salas, Corporate Manager of Sustainability, and Mr. Juan Pablo Payero, Head of the Industry and Mining Area of the Energy Sustainability Agency (ASE), well as representatives of Consultora Roda Energia, which is working alongside Molynor to execute this project.

The activity was marked by a motivating presentation by Mr. Juan Pablo Payero, regarding the importance and benefits of SGEs, the national context on energy management, how SGEs related to the future energy efficiency law, and the application of energy management as a tool to add value to processes, as well as to increase the competitiveness, productivity, and sustainability of organizations.

The goal was to communicate the beginning of the project, the economic and environmental benefits brought about by its implementation, as well as to inform the structure (organizational chart) to ensure continuity and follow-up, as well as the calendar and relevant milestones, for the purpose of getting all organization members on board to carry out the project successfully.

The project will take 15 months, ending on March 2, 2022, and will allow Molynor to get a head start on compliance with the future Energy Efficiency and Climate Change laws, contributing to the reduction of energy consumption and the generation of greenhouse gas emissions in its operations. With this, Molynor takes an important step towards fulfilling the sustainability strategy, moving towards higher standards of operation in line with the company’s purpose.

To achieve this milestone, Molynor obtaining co-funding of around 14 million pesos from the ASE to implement the SGE along with the Roda Energia consultant firm, which will accompany Molynor up to the obtainment of the ISO 50.001 certificate. It is important to note that in order to obtain this co-funding, the company had to demonstrate previous execution of initiatives to reduce energy consumption or use energy more efficiently, which is evidence that, for Molymet and its subsidiaries, sustainability is one of the pillars of its everyday work and part of the management of all operations in the countries and towns where the company is present, contributing to the overall fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the country’s goals with respect to energy efficiency and carbon neutrality.

It should also be mentioned that this system is in addition to other environment, quality, and occupational health and safety systems associated with the ISO 14.001, ISO 9.001, and OHSAS 18.001 standards, respectively, which make up Molynor’s Integrated Management System.

We want to thank the Energy Sustainability Agency for the trust it has placed in Molynor with the granting of this co-funding and the technical support of Consultora Roda Energia during the application process and initial system implementation. Their help motivates us to keep working hard to execute this and other initiatives that contribute to the protection of our planet and the continuous improvement of our processes and activities.
