At Molymet, we are committed to sustainable development, which moves us to manage the environmental dimensions of our operation in a balanced and systematic manner. For this, we apply preventive measures far above local and international standards to control, mitigate and minimize our environmental impact, in accordance with current legislation and our environmental commitments.
of the water used in the Molymet corporate building is reused in industries
Molymet's water management is based on the operation of its Industrial Liquid Waste (RILES) treatment plan, whose purpose is to treat effluents from the production process and return industrial quality water to the processes, in order to recycle 81% of resources. Likewise, we have a liquid treatment plan that allows for a reuse of 80% of industrial liquid waste in the plant's own processes.
efficiency in the recovery of sulfur dioxide, avoiding its release into the atmosphere
Molymet is consistently investing in ways to minimize emissions associated with its operations. We have two gas treatment plants, and an Ongoing Emissions Monitoring System. We also have an Air Quality Monitoring Network, which records the particulate matter concentrations in the atmosphere and more closely monitors the surrounding areas through three stations located around the plant. Additionally, we measure our carbon footprint, specifically direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions, among other measures.
tons of waste recycled every year
At Molymet, we seek to properly manage the wastes generated by our operations, to ensure that they are treated correctly in authorized areas and under adequate conditions so that they do not affect the soil, bodies of water, wildlife, and others. Therefore, we separate our waste according to origin, recycling those that can be reused, valuing industrial materials such as lime grounds and slag, which are used as alternative materials in the cement and concrete industry, and finally, a smaller proportion of waste is treated and disposed of inertly in areas established by the environmental authority.
hectares of green areas protected by Molymet
A plantation of 123 hectares of organic walnut trees welcomes guests at the entrance to Molymet. These trees produce walnuts free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Here we also grow other plants such as oats, vetches, lima beans, and lupine, which help balance the ecosystem, fix the environmental CO2 content and restore the soil’s organic matter. Meanwhile, the Molynor plant in Mejillones is a member of the Little Fern Sustainability Foundation, which works to conserve this species.
